Richard graduated from Barry University (Miami, Florida) in 1990 with a BSc. in Economics/Finance. He started his career in the financial services industry in 1990 as a Licensed Stockbroker in the United States after passing the Series 7 and Series 69 stock broking licensing exams.
On his return to Trinidad in 1991 he joined RBTT bank. He held several senior positions at various divisions in the Bank, including the Retail Banking Head office and the Trust Company. He was instrumental in the development and launch of new products and business lines. The Roytrin US$ Mutual Funds and the Praetorian Property Mutual fund were launched with his assistance. He was also responsible for the launch of the future cash US$ retirement plan.
He joined Guardian Asset Management Limited in 2004 as Head of Products and Institutional Sales. Richard again was responsible for setting up a new line of products. The Guardian family of mutual funds was successfully launched with his assistance. He was also responsible for the training of Guardian agents to sell the new range of Mutual Funds. He also developed and launched a structured note program for the Guardian Group in Jamaica.
In 2008, Richard changed his career focus by entering the Life Insurance industry. He joined Beacon Insurance Co. Ltd as the Vice President of Life and Health. His main responsibility was setting up Beacon’s Life and Health division. He was successful in launching Beacon’s first life policies in Trinidad, the Eastern Caribbean, Barbados, and Suriname.
He was awarded his MBA from the University of the West Indies in June 2008.
In 2013, he was appointed the Managing Director of the Guyana Americas Merchant Bank Inc. (GuyAm Bank). He is the former Executive Director of The Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Limited and the former chairman of the Guyana Association of Bankers Inc and currently serves as a director on both boards.
